Vehicle Safety Recall Check

Check if your vehicle — or one you are about to buy — has any outstanding manufacturer safety recalls. Free to check, vital for safety.

About Safety Recalls

A safety recall is issued by a vehicle manufacturer when a safety-related defect is discovered in a specific model or batch of vehicles. Recalls can cover anything from faulty airbags and brake issues to electrical faults and fire risks. Manufacturers are legally required to fix recall issues free of charge.

In the UK, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) maintains a database of all vehicle safety recalls. You can check any vehicle against this database using its registration number — it is completely free and takes less than a minute.

Safety First

Outstanding recalls can affect critical safety systems — brakes, airbags, seatbelts, and steering. Do not risk driving with an unresolved safety defect.

Free Repairs

Manufacturers fix recall issues for free, regardless of the vehicle's age or warranty status. You should never pay for recall work.

Check Before Buying

Always check a used car for outstanding recalls before purchasing. A car with unresolved recalls may have been neglected by the previous owner.

UK-Wide Database

The DVSA recall database covers all vehicles registered in the UK. Checking is quick, free, and gives you peace of mind.

Good to know: Even if a recall was issued years ago, the manufacturer must still fix it for free. There is no time limit on safety recalls. If you discover an outstanding recall on a car you already own, contact any franchised dealer for that brand — they will carry out the work at no cost to you.
